Santa Sighting

Hi!

I've found a Santa sighting, although Santa isn't really a creature of cryptozoology.

Merry Christmas!

Elf Sighting

Hi there!

Since it's near Christmas I'd like to show you an old elf (or gnome) sighting today.

The gnome-like figure was said to terrorise an Argentinian town. Locals have claimed that it stalks the streets at night. The gnome/elf has a pointy hat and a distinctive sideways walk.

Some people say that it's just a midget.

The teenager who filmed the gnome, Jose Alvarez, told a newspaper El Tribuno that he caught the video while hanging out with his friends in their hometown, General Guemes.

"We were chatting about our last fishing trip. It was one in the morning. I began to film a bit with my mobile phone while the others were chatting and joking."
"Suddenly we heard something - a weird noise as if someone was throwing stones. We looked to one side and saw that the grass was moving. To begin with we thought it was a dog but when we saw this gnome-like figure begin to emerge we were really afraid."

Some other locals have come forward to say that they too saw the gnome.

Jose adds, "One of my friends was so scared after seeing that thing that we had to take him to the hospital."

Large Flying Creature filmed in Hamburg

Today I was browsing YouTube and came across this video of what appears to be pterodactyl footage in Hamburg.

I think it's a plastic bag.

"Dead Alien" in Siberia turns out to be a hoax

I know that this is a little late, but the dead alien found in Siberia (see my article HERE, which was posted in April earlier on this year) actually turned out to be a fake made out of stale breadcrumbs and chicken skin.
No wonder people thought it looked like a fried chicken!

The video was shot by Timur Hilall, 18, and Kirill Vlasov, 19. They both admitted that it was a prank after being quizzed by the police.

The Russian interior ministry spokesman said, "We found the alien in one of the student's homes. It was lying under his bed and an examination of it revealed it had been made of bread crumbs which were then covered in chicken skin."

Russian Woman keeps "dead alien" in Fridge

Russian woman Marta Yegorovnam claims to have proof of extraterrestrial life in the form of a 61 cm long "alien corpse" that she was keeping in her fridge for around two years.

Apparently, she found it in the flaming UFO wreckage that had crashed outside her summer home in Petrozavodsk.
The remains of this frog-like alien is currently being studied by the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, apparently.

However, astronomer Dr. Ian Griffin says, "If aliens were smart enough to travel vast distances between the stars, they're probably smart enough to avoid being stored in a fridge for two years."

Dave Sutton added, "The alien in the 1951 movie of "The Thing" was a super-intelligent vegetable, so who knows?"

The Pheonix

The Phoenix is a famous mythical bird with brilliant, fiery golden plumage (sometimes with blue, green or purple tail feathers according to other legends.)
According to legend, it has a 500 - 1000 year life cycle. At the end of the cycle, the phoenix will build itself a nest, sit in it and set fire to it, reducing the nest and itself to ashes. A new, baby phoenix emerges from the flames, reborn and ready to start a new life.
The phoenix's ability to regenerate from its ashes implies that it is immortal, although some people say that the new phoenix is simply the offspring of the old one.
Legends of the phoenix can be found in a wide range of cultures.

The phoenix may be a supernatural being, as birds can't really live for 1000 years and set fire to itself.

Modern sightings are quite frequent, too. Phoenix sightings can sometimes be classified as UFOs as the flying object in the sky is not identified yet.
The sightings are actually quite phenomenal, although people say these sightings may be that of aliens instead.

The phoenix - just a myth or is it really out there?

Russian Fishermen find "mermaid"

Even though this is quite an old video, I'd like to show this to you.

However, this video may be genuine, but the "mermaid" is not. It's actually a shovel-nosed guitar fish flipped on its back (no really - that's what it's really called!)

Shovel-nosed guitar fish
You can tell by the shape of the overall body - you can also see that the "mermaid's" eyes are actually nostrils.

Thylacine Footage

Those of you who are familiar with my blog probably know about the Thylacine (or Tasmanian tiger).
To see my post, click here.

I've found some footage of a Tasmanian tiger taken in 2009. Some people commenting say that it's a fox, but the tail isn't the right shape and the colour is the same as a Tasmanian tiger.

If the vidoe won't play, click here.

So, what do you think? Is there a chance that the Thylacine still walks the earth today?

Dinosaurs - Are They Extinct?

According to mainstream science, dinosaurs were wiped out sixty-five million years ago. However, according to some branches of Cryptozoology, dinosaurs may have lived much longer and may even live amongst us today!
The theory that dinosaurs may still be around explains many sightings of dinosaur-like creatures such as the Loch Ness Monster and the Mokele Mbembe.
Every continent has some examples of a dinosaur-like creature in their folklore, such as dragons. Cryptozoologists argue that these stories are inspired by dinosaurs and are evidence of living dinosaurs.

Even today dinosaurs are sighted. In Papua New Guinea a grey, ten foot tall carnivorous dinosaur was sighted in the forest. Even the police at the local area believed the stories and sent out a search to kill it!

I found this sighting of what appears to be a sauropod on a hill, but I think it looks a lot like a plastic model.

I think dinosaurs still live with us today, but not as giant reptiles. They live among us as birds, their direct descendants.
What do you think?

News Bite - Halloween UFO

This year on Halloween in Missouri, eight people have reported a UFO sighting.
There were multiple-witness accounts of disc shaped, bright lights that flooded the Mutual UFO Network witness reporting database (or MUFON for short) including three video clips which have not been released yet.
Click here to see Case 33047, in which a daughter-in-law and two grandsons were at a stop light when they saw "pulsating and blinking multi-coloured lights, as well as extremely bright, white lights" in the sky.
The object simply hovered and moved closer towards them.

"When we first saw it, it was as if it was approaching us with its bottom facing us," the witnesses said.
"As if on vertical orientation, and as it retreated, it turned flat at times, moving very slowly, then accelerating very quickly. It would completely disappear from time to time."

News Bite - Alien Footage Caught in the Amazon

I've found this viral video news clip featuring an alien caught in the Amazon rainforest by British tourists. They were meeting the local children when they started to turn around - and they saw a strange alien hanging around in the background!
To me it doesn't seen very genuine - the picture quality is bad and the children did not seem surprised at all.

Proof of the Yeti?

To those of you who visit my blog regularly, you may know about the search of the Yeti in Russia set by scientists in America, Canada and Russia.
They are pretty sure that they have found evidence of the creature, and this video will show you:

http://video.uk.msn.com/watch/video/yeti-proof-the-hunt-for-the-yeti/2g65rmjh?from=sfhpmodule

They have found some wiry hairs, giant footprints, sound recordings and the traps they have set up had been broken.

To visit my article about the search click here.

News Bite: Scientists Set Off on Search of Yetis

For a long time many people wanted to get to the bottom of the mystery of the Yeti (click here to find out more).
Now, a team of Russian and American scientists have set off to Kemerovo (in the east of Moscow) in search of the big, hairy creature as there has been a dramatic increase on sightings in that area.

The Thylacine (or Tasmanian Tiger)

The Thylacine is a marsupial animal that was native to Australia, Tasmania (of course) and New Guinea that is thought to have become extinct in the 20th century.
It was the largest carnivorous marsupial of the modern times. Scientists believe it became extinct in the 20th century due to bounty hunting, but people have lately sighted the Thylacine in New Guinea and Tasmania, although none of them are confirmed.
Sadly logging industries were trying to poison certain areas of the forests to kill of the remaining Thylacines to stop environmentalists shutting them down.

Where in the World?

Today I went onto the MSN homepage and found this article on places where people have sighted cryptids the most. Although I don't really like MSN news I think this article may be interesting.

http://travel.uk.msn.com/gap-year/photos.aspx?cp-documentid=159018559&page=1

Personally I find this article quite biased but it's entertaining.
Have any of you been to these places? Have you seen any of these creatures mentioned? Please tell me in the comments!

Alien Greys

Alien greys (otherwise known as "Greys") are sexless, extraterrestrial beings with enlarged heads and are named after their skin colour. Their characteristics also include enlarged eyes as well as a small body.

They are very common in pop culture (for example in E.T), but there have been records of these beings since the ancient Egyptians. Take a look at this one:

Notice that the alien is on the figure's lap on the right.

As Greys are common in pop culture it's not surprising that many people have faked sightings. In fact I can't really find any genuine sightings - if you know any sightings please post a link to the sighting in the comments!

Here is a hoaxed sighting:

News Bite - UFO Near Hertfordshire

A Radio 5 live sports reporter claims to have seen a disc-shaped object circling a field in Hertfordshire on his way to work.
Mike Sewell described it as a "big, bright light in the sky" and it was "bigger than a helicopter."

UFO expert Timothy Good says, "It's clearly not a conventional aircraft of any kind - I'm impressed - I wished I would have seen it myself."

Unfortunately, as he didn't take any photos I don't have any photos to show you!
But if you want, you can check out the BBC article here.

A Holiday in Wales

I'm sorry that I've been away for such a long time - I went on holiday to Wales and the Wi-Fi was rubbish!
Anyway, as I went to Wales, I think an article on Welsh dragons would seem appropriate.

A place where dragons are sighted most in Wales is Carleon in Gwent.
Here is a rare "sighting" from Mr & Mrs Arthur Jones of Pontypool, taken with the camera on a mobile phone while out trekking in Bets-Y-Cowed.

I think it's a fake. Isn't it obvious? It doesn't LOOK like it was taken on a mobile phone.
I think it's almost certain that it's Photoshopped, but the website I originally found the photo from never mentioned the possibility of it being faked. It seemed biased. Too good to be true.

The Dover Demon

The Dover Demon (aka "Momo - Sapien) was first sighted in, you guessed it, Dover.
In Dover, Massachusetts, 1977, three teenagers were driving down at night when they caught a glimpse of it in their headlights.

Remarkably, later on that evening another teenager spotted it, mistaking it for a short friend of his, only too see it run away.
Incredibly, it was sighted ANOTHER time later on in that evening.

Dubbed the "Dover Demon" by famed cryptozoologist Loren Coleman, it is roughly four ft tall, has a very large head and incredibly skinny limbs. It has glowing, orange eyes and its overall colour is grey.
According to eyewitness accounts, the Dover Demon makes a painful wailing noise.

Some cryptozoologists believe that the Dover Demon isn't even a cryptid from Earth - they believe that the Dover Demon is actually an alien grey (I may write an article on these sooner.)

I've also found sketches of the Dover Demon and another sighting:

The Yowie (or Yahoo)

The Yowie is an Australian ape - like cryptid like the Yeti. Some experts say that "yowie" or "yahoo" are just different names given to the same hairy humanoid while others think that they are different species.

As the sightings seem to describe two groups of different animals then I'm regarding them as separate species.

Yahoo - The Aboriginal "Devil-Man"
The Yahoo tends to be quadrupedral and less "monster-like" than the Yowie. It's around 5 ft tall and on rare occasions it stands upright. It has dark fur on its back and it has a lighter underside and head.

Yowie - The Urban Legend
Unlike the Yahoo it walks around on two legs. Its name has now pretty much replaced the older term "yahoo," used in folklore.

UFO Photos

You may have seen this photo in an earlier post:

UFO in London

Please remember that UFO's are flying objects that haven't been identified yet.
This means that a glow-in-the-dark frisbee could be a UFO (until someone finds out what it is.)

Photo 1 - UFO over the Thames
University of Exeter student Karolina Slavka was shocked when she saw what looked like flying saucers hovering over the Thames in her tourist snaps taken from her phone. Even experts claim it is real.
"These photos are, in my opinion as a UFO researcher, absolutely astounding and show a real object under intelligent control," says Chris Martin.
"This is a classic flying-saucer shaped UFO."

What do you think of this photo?

Sky Serpent Videos

Another one of my favourite articles is on sky serpents, even though they are studied more in Parapsychology than in Cryptozoology as their characteristics are more paranormal.

I have found a video on Youtube with stunning examples of sky serpents.

Enjoy!

Missed News Flash: Search for the Skunk Ape

I know that this is very late as this story was published last year on the 7th May (oh dear. I should start checking the news more.)

Newspaper The Times received calls from readers saying that they believed that they saw the the skunk ape in South Georgia.

One reader's account came from Brook's County and the other came from Berrien County. They said that there was an odour present like the smell of rotten eggs when it was sighted and was around seven feet tall.

"Alien" Caught on Live News

This video shows, apparently, a tall, skinny humanoid alien walking around in the distance.

However, the "alien's" shadow is on the right when the sun is shining from the right, so it has to be a fake.

That is one way of finding out whether footage is genuine or not.

Dead Mermaid Found After Hurricane Ike

I know that this is an old video, but i still think it's worth putting on this blog.
The camera man, however, refused to turn in the body & was known for faking videos, so this one is most likely to be a hoax.

More Skunk Ape Photos

One of the most interesting creatures I've written about is the skunk ape.
As I'm fascinated by its weirdness, I'm going to show a few sightings.

In my opinion, these photos look similar to Big Foot.
Could they be related?

Thunderbirds

Now, I'm not talking about the movie with those little puppets. I'm talking about the giant, predatory eagle-like creature about the size of a small plane.

They are taken very seriously in the field of Cryptozoology, as they match the description of teratorns, a type of giant flying bird, now (presumably) extinct.

There have also been sightings of giant owls, but they are usually considered to be separate creatures from Thunderbirds, and other eyewitness accounts describe them to be bird-like, but with no obvious feathers like a bat or a pterosaur.

Thunderbird in Kerala

French cryptozoologist Micheal Raynal says, "This picture is very impressive, indeed, but it might be an optical illusion."

Here is another one:

Dr Kenneth E. Campbell is pictured here standing in front of a specimen of (now extinct) Argentavis Magnificans.

Personally, I don't think it looks really convincing, but it is on display at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles.

Are Thunderbirds soaring through the sky as we speak?

Sky Serpents

Sky serpents are UFOs that have been sighted very often in the 20th and 21st century.

They are considered to be phantoms as there isn't really any physical way they could exist. After all, what living creature could look like a snake but manage to float around independently?

These creatures are studied more often in Parapsychology (study of the paranormal) than in Cryptozoology. However, these two studies are loosely connected, so I'm including them in this blog.

Other explanations include that they are really alien crafts designed to (unsuccessfully) desguise themselves, or that they are oriental dragons. Other than this cryptozoologists aren't very interested in them.

The sightings people come up with are actually quite stunning though.

Mokele Mbembe

The Mokele Mbembe is a sauropod - like dinosaur which is thought to be extinct.
African folklore describes it as a herbivorous animal the size of an elephant.

In Congo the Japanese recorded of what may be footage of this 'dinosaur'.

Ways to Improve

Hi there,

Everything can improve somehow, so please tell me your opinions as they are very valuable!
It can be anything from a post on a certain creature or about the blog itself.

So please, start commenting!

Hyenas in America

There have been reports of hyenas trotting along the banks of the Mississippi river.

Sceptics say it appears to be a dog. Only DNA testing can confirm whether or not it is a hyena.

With its sloping back and apparently stumped tail (although hyenas only look like they have stumped tails as they don't) the man who captured this sighting, Tim McCary, handed it in in speculation of it being a hyena.

Now, many sightings have died out due to folklore. Mr McCary's "hyena" is one of few American hyena sightings.

Wallaby enjoys garden in Lyme Regis

Where are wallabies most happy? Somewhere in a hot desert in Oz?
Maybe not. Jan Cooper was enjoying a coffee when she saw what she first thought was a fox. Looking closer, she realised it was something different altogether - a wallaby, which looked very well cared for.

"I was having a coffee and first saw a fox and texted my husband, which he wasn't impressed by, then five minutes later I texted him to say we had a wallaby bounding around," she says.

There were no reports of wallabies escaping from zoos, so even though we know it is real (as the RSPCA confirmed it,) nobody knows where it came from.

Where do you think it came from?

"Catbeast" is like a Lynx

A dog walker, Sean Mcgeady, has spotted a "catbeast" which he likened to a lynx.

The 19 year old said, "I was walking along Nunlea Royd, approaching my home in Bentley Avenue when a large creature shot across my path."

"It appeared to have a light-brown colouration, lighter than a fox. It looked very lean and muscular, and was about the size of a lynx."

That sighting was the second one in months.

The last time it was sighted was by 24 year old Vanessa Pickles. She described it to be lynx-like, but unlike Sean, she said that it had a black coat with brown markings.

Cougar Sighted in Park

A fully grown cougar was seen by staff sauntering around Goldstream Park on Thursday, just one hour before a kindergarten class was due to visit.

The cougar was caught on tape just a few metres from the main building.

The kindergarten class visited anyway as scheduled but the park gave safety lectures.

"It's when they're hurt or startled that maybe they would come back at you," said Rick Carswell, Park operator,"But they would usually just run away."

If you want to, you can take a look at my article on Big Cats in England.

Air Rods

Air rods are another form of UFO otherwise known as a skyfish or flying rods.
Like crop circles, even sceptics admit that they exist.

They were first discovered in the 1990's, when people watching videos of all types, ranging from theatre to home videos realised that some footage had disturbances that looked like transparent rods, or occasionally white. They moved really quickly and were difficult to keep track of.

Soon, air rods were being studied. Close observation showed that if you zoomed out of the video, you could see that the rods were three dimensional objects and not just blotches on the camera lens. They even discovered that the rods were usually around three feet long.
What's more, the rods seem to behave in an intelligent way. The smaller rods chased butterflies and some flew in formations.

The Kraken

The Kraken has appeared in many myths and legends. Hundreds of years ago, many sailors reported being attacked by a creature like a giant octopus.

Kraken are of a gargantuan size, big enough to sink ships.

As kraken are very secretive and are nocturnal, it is hard to get good sightings.

A Giant Squid caught on camera for the first time
Scientists have now declared the kraken to be real. In other words, the colossal squid. However, colossal squid don't really surface and attack ships, and they certainly aren't big enough to do so. What do you think? Are kraken and colossal squid really the same creature?

The Legendary Fur-bearing Trout

The furry trout is a fictional creature that is native to Canada. Some people say that it has evolved to grow a thick, white fur coat to cope with the extreme cold while others say that somebody accidentally spilt four cups of hair tonic into the River Arkansas.

In reality, this may be a misunderstanding. The fish might have been infected with a fungus, "cotton mould," which makes it appear furry.

People have provided some specimens, but they all turned out to be fake.

This specimen is from a Belgium zoologist.
The fur bearing trout of Canada still remains a mystery.

Did Martians Exist?

The movies usually show little green men in flying saucers descending onto America, massacring millions of innocent people. However, the only "Martian" to kill somebody was a small rock from Mars, and it didn't even kill a human. It killed an Egyptian dog.

Most scientists agree that there may not be life on Mars today, but some reckon that there USED to be life - but more likely bacterial. Mars is quite similar to Earth with all of its mountains and ice caps.

In 1976, scientists all were surprised to find a photo of what looked like a giant human face on the surface of Mars.

It was actually an optical illusion caused by the Sun on a Martian hill called Cydonia.

More photos cropped up of what appeared to be pyramids, just like the ones in Egypt!

Canals and river courses may also be evidence that shows that there used to be life on Mars.

An ancient river course?

Was there really life on Mars? Please tell me what you think!

The Skunk Ape

The Skunk Ape is a cryptid that looks like a cross between a skunk and a gorilla that has been sighted in Florida.
Little is known about this strange creature, but the National Parks service has dismissed this as a myth.
I'd like to see what they can say about this photo, then.

The Jersey Devil

I've been itching to write about the Jersey Devil. Photos people have taken of it are quite interesting, and genuine photos of cryptids are rare.

The Jersey Devil is a cryptid that is said to inhabit Pine Barrens in the south of Jersey. People describe it as a red, winged biped, but many descriptions vary. Now, it is common in Jersey's pop culture.

The legend of the Jersey Devil isn't very applaudable, however I think it's worth looking into. The legend says that a woman known as Mother Leeds said "Let it be the Devil" when giving birth to her 13th child. It was born with red skin, horns, wings and a horse's head. Afterwards, it flew off into the Pine Barrens.
The creature visited Mrs Leeds every day, but she told it to leave. Eventually, it never returned.

People have spotted the Jersey Devil time and time again. Here is a sighting.

The Jersey Devil is seen on the right
I also have found another one, but I reckon it's a fake.

What do you think? Is it an old wives tale just to bring in more tourists? Or is something really lurking in New Jersey?

Humanzees

Now that we've done the Yeti, I think it's sensible to talk about humanzees (or "chumans.") A humanzee is the cross between a male human and a female chimpanzee, and a chuman is vice-versa.

You may have heard of Oliver, the chimpanzee.

Oliver, unlike most chimps, was bipedal (he walked on two legs) and had a flatter face like a human. He also expressed his feelings like a human - he cried when he was upset, and smiled when happy. He also preferred human company to chimpanzees.

However, when scientists ran tests on him, they said he was 100% chimp.

For more information on Oliver, click here.

Are humanzees possible?

Bigfoot

Yeti, Sasqautch, the Abominable Snowman  and Bigfoot: they all are different names for the massive ape that is sighted often in the Himalayas.

It was first sighted in 1811 by a fur trader, David Thompson, who had claimed to have seen massive four-toed footprints in the fresh snow.

Soon, new sightings sprang up. In 1884, a team who had set out to capture Bigfoot claimed to have seen him by a river.

People now have managed to snap photos of him.
